It is more than likely that author made a mistake here. On one hand he's saying and showing Cao Ying as the most outstanding talent in whole of pill tower and yet she only reached tier 7 at the age of 20 but this fellow managed to reach tier 7 at around the age of 14. If that was the case then someone like Cao Ying wouldn't even come close to his talent. Also, this fellows wasn't that impressive either to begin with so author most definitely made a mistake here in either number or tier.
- He's either close to 30 years old and is at tier 7 mid class OR
- He's close to 20 years old but is tier 6 alchemist
First option seems more logical.
